Most people would be surprised to learn that from the mid 1960’s to early 1970’s, Toronto played an integral role in defining what would become the most iconic era of rock and blues. One young photographer named Jeff Plewman (aka Nash the Slash) working freelance for York University Excalibur newspaper and later for a street music zine called Tribal Village, was one the lucky few to be allowed to document these incredible shows on film. Until now, this extraordinary photo collection had been largely kept secret and almost lost. Jeff went on to build a successful career in the music industry in Canada and beyond performing as Nash the Slash but kept his photos from that time under wraps - to date, only a handful of photos were ever published. With Jeff’s passing in 2014, the photos have finally found the light of day. Nash the Slash’s Estate has since catalogued, digitized and meticulously restored this remarkably rare collection. These incredible photos tell a captivating story of Toronto’s forgotten music legacy, pulling the curtain back to reveal a rare look at these legendary artists in their youth, as raw and as candid they have ever been seen.

“Venus As A Boy” explores various aspects of queer identity through the themes and concepts of strength and fragility. The viewer is immersed in a series of images depicting the birth of femininity and how powerful it is when we dismantle toxic masculinity using forms of sensuality. “Venus As A Boy” deploys the human form through waves of submissiveness and stances of potency to illustrate the desires, relationships, and craved interactions of queer individuals.

About Jason: A passion for nature has defined my life since I was a child. I hope that the beauty you find in the species and spaces that my work captures will translate into a resolve to preserve them.
In 2010 Jason realized the importance of giving back and founded the All in the Wild Land Fund to protect wild lands using a percentage of proceeds from the sale of each photograph. The company motto is to respect nature and by sharing its beauty with the world they are doing exactly that.

About Will’s Photography: I am captivated by stark environments, both on land and at sea. The winters in Newfoundland are long and grey. In those early days, that scarcity of sunlight made an important impression on me. The result was that I began to create work that had, or appeared to have, its own internal light and energy. The vibrant colours of Newfoundland’s vernacular architecture made their way into my work – bright and eclectic colour palettes that have been used for generations as an antidote to the grey of the sea, sky, and rock. I continue to work with a simple flash, theatrical gels, reflective fabric, and retroreflective glass beads to make work that employs light as an avenue to meaning.
